Of Startups and Ideas

Some lessons I’ve learnt over the years from trying to develop ideas, build startups and grow talent:

  • You don’t hire people based on whether they can determine if anything has potential. You hire people based on whether they can find potential in anything.
  • Stupid ideas are rarely stupid in reality.
  • Come up with one thousand crazy concepts and one solid backup plan.
  • Anything that looks professional does not cost money. A professional is an individual, not a piece of equipment.
  • You can afford to offend everybody at least once.
  • Coffee is is free yet legal tender.
  • Reply promptly to everyone except the bidder.
  • The person who offers you the highest price can be made to offer you the lowest price.
  • A leg shake is far more potent than a hand shake.
